QCoast2100

On 2 June 2016, the former Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection, the Honourable Dr Steven Miles MP and the former LGAQ President, Margaret de Wit, officially launched the QCoast2100 Program. A Queensland Government commitment to provide $13.234 million to assist councils advance coastal hazard adaptation planning by developing a Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy (CHAS).

The Program represented an unprecedented opportunity for local governments impacted by coastal hazards to get on the front foot in adaptation planning to implement cost-effective mitigation measures over the medium and long term, plan for development and growth, budget for higher costs, collaborate regionally and seek investment opportunities.

QCoast2100 Round 2

In November 2021, the Queensland Government provided an additional $3 million to expand the program to enable eligible local governments to further develop and implement actions identified in their CHAS.

Round 2 funding built on the success of the QCoast2100 Program by focussing on implementing actions identified in completed strategies. The program supported councils in taking the next step in planning for required on-ground works as well as commence ‘shovel ready’ adaptation activities.

The funding also assisted councils who were yet to commence or who had not yet completed a CHAS under Round 1 and included bespoke support for multiple First Nations councils.

QCoast2100 Round 3

In April 2023, the Queensland Government provided an additional $4 million to support local governments to protect their coastal communities.

The focus of Round 3 was to develop and expand on the implementation of works and actions recommended in a councils CHAS.

QCoast2100 Round 4

In February 2025, the Queensland Government announced an additional $6 million from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) through their Efficiencies Funding Program (EFP) to provide for the continued implementation of coastal hazard adaptation works and actions for disaster mitigation.

This new funding round brings the total of QCoast2100 funding to $26.2 million and extends the life of the program to 30 June 2027.
