On 2 June 2016, the former Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection, the Honourable Dr Steven Miles MP and the former LGAQ President, Margaret de Wit, officially launched the QCoast2100 Program. QCoast2100 is a Queensland Government commitment to a $13.234 million fund to assist councils advance coastal hazard adaptation planning.

The Program represents an unprecedented opportunity for local governments impacted by coastal hazards to get on the front foot in adaptation planning to implement cost-effective mitigation measures over the medium and long term, plan for development and growth, budget for higher costs, collaborate regionally and seek investment opportunities.

QCoast2100 2.0

The Queensland Government provided an additional $3 million to expand the QCoast2100 Program, to enable eligible local governments to further develop and implement coastal hazard adaptation strategies (CHAS).

The new funding builds on the highly successful QCoast2100 Program by focussing on implementing actions identified in completed strategies so councils can commence on-ground adaptation actions. The funding will also assist those councils yet to commence a CHAS or who have not completed a CHAS.
