KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION SHARING WEBINAR #1

Back

COUNCIL ONLY EVENT - On Friday the 19th of June 2020, the LGAQ hosted the first in a series of QCoast2100 Knowledge and Information Sharing Webinars. Designed to be an interactive experience for QCoast2100 Council Leads, it provided an oppotunity to discuss different issues and approaches in CHAS development for cross-council learning.

To kick us off, the first session commenced with a project update from Mat Cork then led onto our feature presentation by Adam Brook from Brisbane City Council, discussing the following:

  1. A Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy for a River City / non-Coastal council.
    • Whilst BCC is a large/well-resourced council, doing work in the coastal space is a new workstream which posed many challenges. Adam outlined how these were overcome.
  2. Creating and drawing on new support networks.
    • Identifying the opportunities and benefits of working together.
    • Setting up the SEQ Coastal Council meetings and support network has been very useful for a project like this, where we are all doing the same project but very differently. Adam discussed how this approach can work for councils of all sizes.

Following on from Adam, Mat then led a discussion on the potential for the creation of other regional working groups before opening the floor for Q&A and general discussion.

The session was attended by 22 council officers representing 18 councils. View presentation here
